This year, four SABIS^® schools in Kurdistan hosted the first ever SAGA Convention (SAGACON), a convention and networking event for SABIS^® alumni and seniors from the SABIS^® schools in the region. The event was a huge success and paved the way for future SAGACON events in the network.

On March 9, 2019, 250 SABIS^® alumni and seniors from the International School of Choueifat – Erbil, the International School of Choueifat – Sulaimani, Sardam International School, and Fakhir Mergasori International School came together to participate in the first ever SAGACON convention.  The event featured an Employment Outlook Expo, Business Project Competition, SAGA activity, lunch and entertainment, speeches and presentations, giveaways, and much more!

The Employment Outlook Expo offered SABIS^® alumni and seniors the opportunity to interact with a variety of companies from the region and learn more about different jobs and employment opportunities as well as get a general outlook on the employment sector. Participating companies included UNICEF, Dana Gaz, Rudaw Media Network, and Rwanga.

SABIS^® seniors and alumni were also given the chance to compete for a cash prize of $2,500 by presenting a plan for an original business idea. Nine individuals participated with one of them taking home the prize for their original idea on housing for the elderly.

Attendees of the convention also benefited from the opportunity to network with one another, reconnect with their teachers and schoolmates, and enjoy the atmosphere of the event. Guests enjoyed dinner and entertainment, participated in a SAGA activity, took photos at the SAGACON photo booth, and contributed to the upbeat and productive atmosphere at the event.
