Many of our readers will have undoubtedly heard about Shadow Teaching in SABIS® schools. But beyond the practical aspect, what value does it bring to our students?
Shadow Teachers® are students who excel in specific subjects and who volunteer or are chosen to assist their teacher by conducting a lesson after thorough training and preparation. To that end, schools around the network continuously organize training programs that aim to equip their Shadow Teachers for their roles within their school community and provide them with a deeper understanding of the SABIS® point system, classroom management, and discipline.
One example is the seminar that was recently held by The International School of Choueifat — Muscat in Oman (as seen in the picture above).
Beyond the practical aspect, the SABIS® Shadow Teaching program has many other benefits. It encourages students to take an active role in their education and the education of their peers, an important value in the SABIS® way of education. It also offers a real-life context in which students can develop self-confidence and practice leadership, presentation, and organization skills.
Here are a few photos of Shadow Teachers in action at The International School of Choueifat — Koura in Lebanon and SABIS® International School – Campinas in Brazil.
