School closures and disruptions to education during the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a loss of learning for students around the world. The first wave of results from standardized external exams, such as the OECD’s Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), reflected the results of this loss of learning.
The focus has now shifted to how to recover from this loss of learning. According to data recently released by The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) in the U.S., recovery may take up to 28 years for Grade 8 Math results to return to pre-pandemic levels and 22 years for Grade 4 reading!
For SABIS®, the ability to offer students online learning throughout the pandemic limited, to a large extent, any loss of learning. The SABIS® E-learning model, with its comprehensive digital curriculum, structured pedagogical methodologies and practices, safe and reliable IT infrastructure, and continuous assessment and follow-up, ensured that students continuously received uninterrupted instruction.
Upon their return to school, students were supported by structured lessons that aimed to rapidly recover any loss as well as ongoing support from their teachers and fellow students through study groups, peer tutoring, and Shadow Teaching.
The good news is that results from the 2022-23 academic year reflect that academic performance is back to pre-pandemic levels.
