The SABIS® Student Life Organization, or SLO, is central to the SABIS® system of education. But what exactly is it? And what value does it bring to our students and schools?

The SLO is an organization within each and every SABIS® school that empowers students to get involved and play an active role in their in the day-to-day experience at school.

In practice, this is how it works. Students join one of the 9 SLO departments - Academic, Discipline, Management, Sports, Activities, Outreach, Lower School, Social Responsibility, and Wellness.

In doing so, they become responsible for helping their peers achieve academic success; create a welcoming and social environment that is conducive to learning; take responsibility for many of the school office functions; organize sports, activities, and clubs; act as mentors for the younger students; give back to those who are less fortunate than themselves; and raise awareness about topics that are of importance to the well-being of their generation.

The value of the SLO in our students’ SABIS® experience is priceless. The real-life setting allows them to acquire and develop, first-hand, essential 21st century skills that will allow them to succeed in their personal and professional lives. By working together to organize and roll-out their initiatives, they learn adaptability, teamwork, collaboration, communication, and managerial skills.

Additionally, involvement in an active student life and extra-curricular activities, help students gain a competitive edge when applying to university. These activities show university admissions officers what makes each student unique beyond their academic performance and demonstrates their leadership ability and a willingness to serve their community.
