If you are wondering how kids can continue to lead an active student life even though they are not in school, then you are not alone. Fortunately, the SABIS Student Life Organization® (or SLO®) has come up with some pretty exciting and innovative ideas to make sure the fabric that holds students together remains as strong as ever.  Let’s take a look at a few examples.

At the International School of Choueifat – Sulaimani in Kurdistan, SLO® prefects set up a Reading Club for the younger students. Watch one of our students explain this project in her own words in this short video.

In the U.S., SLO® prefects at SABIS® International Charter School created the questions for Kahoot, a very popular online jeopardy-like game where students answer questions on a theme. After every question, the host provides the correct answers and gives a little history regarding the question.

In Germany, ISF International School Frankfurt SLO® prefects organized a movie night, asking the younger kids to cast their vote on which movie they would like to see. The kids then gathered at the same time to watch the movie and talked about it amongst themselves the next day!

In Baku, Azerbaijan, The SABIS® SUN International School held a virtual Open Mic Day to celebrate the New Year.

At SABIS® International School Costa Verde in Panama, the SLO® Lower School Department prefects organized a virtual zoo trip for the younger kindergarten students.

The SLO® Wellness Department also launched an amazing initiative to help ensure that students do not feel isolated and cut off from their friends and peers during the strict lockdown measures that are in place in Panama. SLO® prefects regularly schedule a friendly chat with their peers to discuss and share their experiences during lockdown and provide additional academic support for students who are struggling with online learning.

On the topic of academic support, the SLO® continues to contribute actively to raising academic standards at their schools. At The International School of Choueifat in Lahore, Pakistan, SLO® prefects held their first ever online Shadow Teacher Day this February.  Over 50 Shadow Teachers participated in the event leading the learning online from their homes.

Find out more about the role the SLO® is playing to help raise academic standards during online learning in our newsletter article entitled Academic Support During COVID-19.

These are just a few examples of the many ways that the SABIS Student Life Organization has continued to create a positive student life experience for all – even when students are confined at home due to the pandemic. By reaching out to students who are feeling isolated, organizing a plethora of fun virtual events, and offering academic support to their peers, the SLO® has made a huge difference in the lives of students during these difficult times.
